Welcome to the Old Presbyterian Graveyard Online
The Old Presbyterian Graveyard dates to 1834, and is a sanctuary steeped in history. Visitors to the graveyard remark on its beauty and tranquility. They are amazed to find a glimpse of the past hidden away in modern downtown Greensboro. It is a walled burial ground with iron entry gates and lovely plantings, a peaceful place of remembrance, and an outdoor gallery of stone sculpture.
Though located in the heart of downtown, the Old Presbyterian Graveyard was an overlooked part of Greensboro's history for many decades. It fell into disrepair, with half the stones succumbing to damage from water and gravity. Two years ago a new effort was begun by interested citizens to restore the fractured and scattered monuments and surround them with a garden. The project was completed at the end of summer 2008, and the result is a historical landmark and garden that is a source of pride and pleasure for Greensboro citizens.
